Ecology and regeneration
As your hosts, we, Marjoleine and Henk-Jan, welcome you into our homestead (also known as ‘Mas’) dating back to the 13th century. It sources its name from the Hamlet’s spring that flows on its land. With our efforts to make ecology and regeneration our craft we’re working on the development of permaculture systems on our land. We invite you to discover our estate and its many terraces and corners of green abundance.
The hamlet of Castagnols (790m of altitude) is located on the heights of a valley neighbouring the small village of Vialas, near Le Pont de Montvert and Genolhac. Here, you will be able to lose yourself in the vastness of the Cévennes’ wild landscapes. Return in the evening to share the warmth and generosity of both food and company. At night, relish in the spacious and well-composed rooms while admiring the details of their design. Witness the beauty of the Cévennes by following the many hikes that pass by the Mas and which will guide you in exploring the region’s distinctive sceneries.
We propose a full-service stay. Not only by way of material comfort, but especially through the silence, the space, natural beauty, clean air and genuine hospitality. During the day, the pastoral and forested landscapes burst with life while at night, the pure air reveals an exceptional sight of the stars in the largest ‘Dark Sky Preserve’ of Europe. Be submerged in the plentiful panorama of the milky way and the spectacle of falling stars.

Since the building of its foundations in the 13th century, the Mas has known numerous extensions. As of today, it boasts a splendid dining room with a hefty log stove and spacious bedrooms. The massive dry-stone walls surround the doors opening onto the courtyards and terraces. Chestnut beams support the slatestone roofs and provide the Mas with an intimate yet robust character.
The Cévennes offer the ideal environment for outdoor sports such as hiking and mountain biking or taking a swim in one of the splendid rivers. Our partners in the surrounding area cater to a diversity of adventurous activities such as canyoning, rock climbing and donkey walks.
The paths and trails are adorned with narrow streams, local fauna and flora and the dry-stone walls that form the ancient terraces that cover the mountains. Small canyons, digged ever-deeper by the streams that run within, provide a myriad of swimming spots.
You will come along many silent and intimate pic-nic sites.
Many hikes (GR) start from the Bed and Breakfast, but nothing withholds you from exploring the area by car or motorcycle. We gladly provide you with a series of hikes and walks. Our terraces and corners of green abundance are at your disposal for a relaxing time in the shade or sun with a good book.
